Sunbelt Pawn Houston Mural

H-Town, Space City, Clutch City– Houston has a multitude of nicknames but my favorite is “home.” Sprawling north to the Woodlands, west to Katy, east to Baytown and all the way down to Galveston – the expansive Houston metro region is home to over 7 million people. Covering over 10,000 miles, there is something for everyone.

If coming in from Dallas/Fort Worth after Expo, you’ll first want to stop into the up-and-coming Springwoods development to stretch your legs. Walking distance from the Exxon campus, Springwoods is filling up with trendy restaurants and ample green space for outdoor living. Stop by locally-owned Common Bond Café for your fill of sweets or a frosé to cool off from this Texas heat.

If you’re like me, you’re always on the lookout for pawnshops to check out when you’re in a different city. Just 15 minutes south on I-45 will bring you to Houston’s one and only pawnshop with 1,000+ Google reviews, Sunbelt Pawn 1960! Stop by to support your locally owned pawn shop and see what all the buzz is about!

Moving south further into Houston city limits, you’ll start to notice the city’s appreciation for art – mainly in the form or street art and murals. Be sure to check out pieces by local artists such as Donkeeboy and Donkeemom, Tyler Kay, Capdavjon, and JCordo. You’ll notice you don’t have to drive all the way to Space Center Houston to see the city’s NASA pride.

After all that mural hopping, stop by Mico’s Hot Chicken located in the Heights neighborhood for a Nashville inspired, Houston Made meal. My recommendation is the sammich with a Texas blueberry lemonade!

Finish your visit off with a night at the Marriott Marquis Houston which opens up into downtown’s Discovery Green park and boasts a Texas shaped lazy river pool.

I hope you’ll consider making the trip down to Houston and enjoy your time deep in the heart of Texas!
