Family is everything to the folks at Big Dog Pawn. Their family-owned and operated stores with two Utah locations, in Murray and West Jordan, are known for making their customers and community feel like family.
Recently, their team made 120 meals for the Principal’s Pantry at one of their local schools. These weekend packs go to kids who don’t have much food outside of school. When they go home on the weekend, eating every night doesn’t always happen.
“We originally started supporting a charity called Principal Pantries through helping to sponsor a paint night. When COVID hit they cancelled the paint nights,” explains Randi Nell.
Randi is a Manager at Big Dog Pawn which was founded by her parents when she was 12 years old. As a teenager, she worked in the store part-time.
“So eventually we got to talking among our team and COVID doesn’t stop kids being hungry it probably just makes it worse. So we reached back out to the charity and found out they are accepting weekend packs,” she recalls.
“The kids can go to the office and they give them these packs of food, for some kids without them they would go hungry for the weekend. That just breaks my heart. So now every quarter we build packs and drop them off at a school. All of our employees try to get on the team to help. We never have a shortage of volunteers!”
